Pizza spatula, also known as a pizza peel, is a kitchen tool used for transferring pizzas to and from the oven. It typically consists of a long handle made of wood or metal, and a flat, rectangular paddle-shaped blade made of wood or metal. The blade of the spatula is often coated with flour or cornmeal to prevent the pizza dough from sticking to it. To use the pizza spatula, the blade is slid under the pizza to lift it off of the counter or pizza stone and then transferred to the oven for baking. After the pizza is cooked, the spatula is used to remove it from the oven by sliding it back under the crust and lifting it out of the oven. Pizza spatulas come in various sizes and shapes, and can be used with both homemade and commercial pizzas.
